Mark Mancini: Mark graduated from the University of Vermont in 2020 with a degree in chemistry. Undergraduate research included organic semiconductor synthesis under Dr. Adam Whalley and molecular simulations of semiconductor structures using computational chemistry under Dr. Michael Ruggiero. He also worked in the med-chem research field for a year, synthesizing small molecule analogs for their use as antibiotics. He is excited to work in research and development for new electrochemical technology.

Alfred Nkhama: Alfred has a B.S  in Physics from the University of Dodoma in Tanzania and earned M.S in Materials Science from Pittsburg State University, 2021.  His masters research focused on facile synthesis of metal oxides, sulphides and phosphides for enhanced energy applications. His research centered on synthesizing materials that could have potential applications in water splitting and energy conversion and storage devices such as fuel cells, batteries and supercapacitors. He worked with Ni-Fe, Co-Fe binary oxides, and their respective sulphides and phosphides in his research.  Alfred aspires to learning and innovating new electrochemical science and related technologies in solving real-world problems.

Vincent Vasquez: Vincent graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2021 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a concentration in Spanish. He was selected for the MIT-Imperial College London exchange program in Fall 2019 where he had the opportunity to complete coursework and gain experience on a fully functional 4 story pilot plant for carbon dioxide scrubbing. During his undergraduate years he completed a project building and extending the life of an aluminum-air battery made from household materials. In addition to serving as a TA during his junior and senior years, he worked in the consulting, satellite, and energy industries during summer internships and a winter term research position. He looks forward to gaining a more in-depth knowledge of electrochemical systems and using that information to engineer next-generation technology.

Matthew Clark: Matt graduated from Oregon State University in 2017 earning a degree in Chemistry with a strong focus in inorganic and materials science. His undergraduate research involved the study of novel synthetic techniques towards the aqueous synthesis of lead free ferroelectric thin films with the Dolgos research group. Following graduation he joined the research division at Sila Nanotechnologies. At Sila he conducts research and development activities to dramatically increase the energy density of rechargeable Li-ion batteries enabling smaller, lighter, longer lasting electronic devices and furthering the worlds efforts towards mass adoption of affordable, long-range electric vehicles. Matthew currently serves as a Scientist at Sila Nanotechnologies while continuing his education at the University of Oregon first via the MS program and then via an industrial PhD at Oregon while continuing his R&D at Sila.

Ashley Werre: Ashley graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Spanish. She ultimately hopes to pursue a career in batteries or hydrogen technologies with her growing skillset in electrochemical science.

Aurora Whitson: Aurora graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a major in Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering and a minor in Business Administration. In my time at the University of Tennessee I completed a year Co-Op with Flint Group in Asheville, NC where I worked in Quality Assurance and Research and Development. At Flint Group I started and led a Sustainability Team designed to target wasteful problems in the plant and fix them with sustainable solutions. After my Co-Op I worked for professor Sankar Raghavan as a research assistant in support of his project developing novel techniques for extracting battery grade lithium from geothermal brine. The experience I gained from Flint Group and working with professor Raghavan encouraged me to pursue further education in sustainable alternatives to oil and gas by obtaining a Masters in Electrochemistry.

Ruben Garcia: Ruben graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2021. Difficile, with the goal of elucidating the possible role of these proteins in this organism’s highly evolved antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
