OCE Promise Scholarship

The Oregon Center for Electrochemistry invites applications for the  Promise Scholarship. The Promise Scholarship will recognize students with exceptional potential to contribute broadly to the field of electrochemical technology. Initial application review is  February 28 for awards to be distributed the following academic year.  Applications will continued to be reviewed on a rolling basis after the initial award period.

Applications will be assessed based on three primary qualities assessed from the student’s scholarship and program applications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in academic coursework, particularly in science and engineering, as well as research, work, or volunteer experience
  • Demonstrated record and future promise towards promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in science and engineering and in the field of electrochemistry
  • Commitment to accelerating research and development in electrochemistry

To apply for the Promise Scholarship, students must concurrently apply to or be admitted to either the Master’s Internship Program in Electrochemical Technology or the Accelerated Master’s Program.

The transcripts, recommendation letters, and statement of purpose submitted in the graduate application will be used for evaluating all candidates. Application fee waivers are available as indicated on the application website.

To be considered for the Promise Scholarship, students must also submit a brief (1000-word maximum) letter detailing the following:

  • Prior contributions and future plans to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in electrochemistry or other STEM disciplines.
  • The impact receiving this financial award will have on you and your ability to enroll in the Master’s Internship Program in Electrochemical Technology.
  • How you intend to support the electrochemical technologies program after graduation to promote access and successful careers for future students.

The application letter can be sent to the email address: electrochemistry@uoregon.edu with the subject line: Promise Scholarship.

We anticipate having ~$50,000 total in scholarship funds available annually to distribute (depending on the finances of the program and number of students that enroll). In the future we hope to be able to offer more scholarships as we attract private and industry sponsors.  Individual scholarship amounts will be based on the quality and number of applications, as well as the scholarship application timing.
